Have you ever failed so hard\u2026 the air in the room changed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like you could feel the disappointment floating around like bad perfume?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have you ever bombed so badly that you wanted Jesus to Rapture you immediately \u2014 no warning, no paperwork, just TAKE ME NOW?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or have you ever walked into a room full of people who smiled at you\u2026 until you opened your mouth and then suddenly they looked like they wanted refunds?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019ve ever felt that level of humiliation,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

congratulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are emotionally qualified to read this blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because what happened to me recently wasn\u2019t failure\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

it was a spectacular crash-and-burn event that made me question my citizenship on Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I get invited to be a judge at a roast battle at the Comedy Store in La Jolla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not just to watch \u2014 but to judge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like they trusted ME with authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mind you\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve only been taking comedy seriously for about 4 to 5 months \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m still in my comedy toddler phase, walking, wobbling, and occasionally shitting myself metaphorically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I was excited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nervous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And absolutely clueless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I visited a roast battle in LA to \u201cstudy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I watched a few battles on YouTube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I scribbled down some jokes I thought were roast material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But did I TRULY understand roasting?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Absolutely not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was out here preparing like I was studying for the WRONG exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I walk into the room\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and immediately feel like I accidentally wandered into a country club charity gala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bougie white couples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fancy outfits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wine glasses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People who look like their hobbies include voting and calling the manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They gave me 7 minutes on stage, so I figured,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet me tell the joke I planned \u2014 the one about me squirting everywhere in porn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honey\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I did NOT think about who my audience was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I start the joke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halfway into it I swear the JEWELRY in the room tightened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The air temp dropped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People shifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eyes widened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It felt like the Holy Spirit walked out the door and said, \u201cYeah\u2026 you\u2019re on your own, sis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time ever, I felt the room\u2019s energy turn NEGATIVE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like instant hostility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like I personally offended their retirement plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I saw a woman clutch her pearls like she needed emotional support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A man blinked at me so slow I thought he was buffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Someone in the back exhaled judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the crowd did. not. laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not a giggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not a pity chuckle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just silence so thick you could hear Botox settling into pores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then came JUDGING time \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

which was worse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I open my mouth to roast the roasters\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and every roast I say falls out like a broken English assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nothing landed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nothing made sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I stumbled, I fumbled, I died internally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The roasters roasted ME back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crowd roasted me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even the HOST roasted me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lady in the audience hated me so much, the host literally said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWow\u2026 you REALLY don\u2019t like her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At that moment I wasn\u2019t judging the roast \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I WAS the roast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fully cooked, carved, basted, and served.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And through it all, I was silently praying,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJesus\u2026 help.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJesus\u2026 rescue me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJesus\u2026 are you WATCHING this trainwreck?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But Jesus was silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He left me on read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He probably grabbed popcorn and said, \u201cOof\u2026 she\u2019ll learn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it was all over, I should\u2019ve been embarrassed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Humiliated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discouraged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But guess what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was actually MOTIVATED.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something in me snapped \u2014 in a good way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh\u2026 so I suck at roasting?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ll LEARN.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I went home and immediately jumped into student mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bought Jeff Ross\u2019s book \u201cI Only Roast the Ones I Love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contacted comedian friends for advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enrolled in an online roasting class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Took notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Practiced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Committed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because failure doesn\u2019t mean quit \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

failure means level up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve failed in so many areas of my life \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Success, marriage, ministry, business, comedy, all of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the difference between staying stuck and moving forward<\/p>\n\n\n\n

is learning to LOVE failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because failure isn\u2019t the enemy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quitting is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you fail?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fix what needs fixing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laugh at yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Try again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Success doesn\u2019t come from perfect people \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

it comes from stubborn people who refuse to give up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I refuse to stay down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next time I walk into a roast battle?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m roasting EVERYBODY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And this time\u2026 the room is gonna feel me shift the energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember you are my lovers, whether you love me or love to hate me you are still my lover!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t forget Jesus loves you and so do I!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
