That\u2019s such an honest and important question \u2014 and I totally get why you\u2019d ask it. That verse used to scare me too. You know, the one where Jesus says, \u201cDepart from me, you worker of iniquity, I never knew you.\u201d I used to think that meant if I messed up, I was done for. But here\u2019s what changed my understanding \u2014 He wasn\u2019t talking to people who believed in Him. He was talking to people who trusted in their works instead of His finished work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Notice what they said: \u201cLord, we cast out demons, we healed the sick\u2026\u201d They were listing their achievements \u2014 not His grace. They were trying to prove their worth through performance instead of relationship. And that\u2019s why Jesus said, \u201cI never knew you.\u201d The issue wasn\u2019t their behavior \u2014 it was their belief. They never knew Him personally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
See, once you truly know Jesus \u2014 once you believe that He died for all your sins (past, present, and future) \u2014 sin no longer defines you. Even if you still fall, stumble, or struggle, your identity isn\u2019t \u201cworker of iniquity.\u201d You\u2019re the righteousness of God in Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s the difference: a believer may still sin, but that\u2019s not their identity. Jesus already put sin to death on the cross. What He finished can\u2019t be unfinished by my failures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So yeah \u2014 I may not look like your \u201ctypical Christian,\u201d but I know Him. Intimately. Personally. And because I know Him, I\u2019m confident when I say this: He\u2019ll never say \u201cdepart from me\u201d to someone He already died to bring close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
