Well, isn\u2019t that the million-dollar question?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I get it all the time \u2014 usually with a raised eyebrow, a nervous giggle, or someone clutching their Bible like I\u2019m about to pole-dance on the pulpit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So let\u2019s talk about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First, let\u2019s clear something up: I don\u2019t justify sin<\/em> \u2014 I glorify grace<\/em>. Big difference. See, religion says, \u201cClean yourself up before you come to God.\u201d Grace says, \u201cCome to Me, and I\u2019ll clean you from the inside out.\u201d (John 15:3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n I know the optics are wild \u2014 \u201cPastor Christy: preaching by day, filming by night.\u201d Sounds like the world\u2019s strangest superhero movie. But the truth is, what shocks people most about me says more about their theology than mine. Because grace isn\u2019t just for the choir girls and Bible-study leaders \u2014 it\u2019s for every human who has ever messed up, fallen short, or Googled something they had to later repent for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Romans 3:23 says, \u201cFor all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Let me repeat that: all.<\/em> Not some. Not just the \u201cbad\u201d ones. Everyone. That includes the pastor, the pornstar, the gossiping church lady, and the guy who cut you off in traffic five minutes ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The church world loves to categorize sin like it\u2019s a menu at Cheesecake Factory \u2014 \u201csmall sin,\u201d \u201cbig sin,\u201d \u201cextra sauce of shame.\u201d But James 2:10 says, \u201cWhoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.\u201d<\/em> Translation: whether you\u2019re lying, lusting, or losing your temper, you\u2019re in the same boat. Congratulations \u2014 we\u2019re all on Team \u201cNeeds Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, before someone says, \u201cSo you\u2019re saying sin doesn\u2019t matter?\u201d No, darling. Sin matters. But grace matters more.<\/em> Romans 5:20 says, \u201cWhere sin increased, grace abounded much more.\u201d<\/em> The louder your sin, the louder God\u2019s grace shouts over it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I don\u2019t stand on a soapbox and tell everyone to go make the same choices I did. I\u2019m not promoting porn \u2014 I\u2019m promoting the Person who loved me through it. The One who sat beside the woman caught in adultery and said, \u201cNeither do I condemn you.\u201d<\/em> (John 8:11). Notice, He didn\u2019t wag a finger. He extended a hand. Grace always comes before change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When I first started walking with Jesus again, I asked, \u201cLord, how can You love me when I\u2019m still a mess?\u201d And I felt Him whisper back, \u201cThat\u2019s the only kind I work with.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Religion says, \u201cBehave and you\u2019ll belong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Grace says, \u201cYou already belong \u2014 now let\u2019s walk this out together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n See, Jesus didn\u2019t come for perfect people; He came for real ones. He dined with tax collectors, befriended prostitutes, and chose fishermen who cussed like sailors. That\u2019s my kind of crowd. If He wanted flawless folks, He would\u2019ve hired angels, not disciples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And let\u2019s be honest \u2014 some of the most judgmental people I\u2019ve met could give adult film stars a run for their money in the sin department. The only difference is, mine\u2019s on camera and theirs is on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Grace doesn\u2019t make you want to sin more \u2014 it makes you fall in love with the One who forgave you. Romans 6:14 says, \u201cFor sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.\u201d<\/em> When you know how deeply you\u2019re loved, sin loses its grip. You don\u2019t obey because you\u2019re scared of punishment; you obey because you\u2019re overwhelmed by love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So how do I justify being a pastor and a pornstar? I don\u2019t \u2014 I magnify the Savior who justified me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the end of the day, my life is a walking sermon titled \u201cYou\u2019re Never Too Far Gone.\u201d<\/em> I\u2019m living proof that God\u2019s grace doesn\u2019t just rescue people from<\/em> dark places \u2014 sometimes He sends His light into<\/em> them. And maybe, just maybe, that\u2019s what He\u2019s doing through me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I may not fit the Sunday-morning mold, but Jesus never asked us to be cookie-cutter Christians. He asked us to be conduits of His grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So, to the one who\u2019s shocked, confused, or even offended by me \u2014 it\u2019s okay. You don\u2019t have to understand my calling. Just know that the same grace that covers me covers you too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And to the one reading this who feels too dirty, too broken, or too far gone \u2014 remember: grace runs faster than guilt. Always has.
